Newspaper
Introduction: A newspaper is a
paper that gives us news of all that happens home and abroad. It gives us news
of day to day happenings of the different parts of the world. It is one of the
blessings of the modern civilization. We cannot think of modern life without the
newspaper. Man is curious by nature. He wants to know about various events of
the world. The newspaper is the best medium to satisfy this curiosity.
Its history: The first newspaper
was published in China. Venice of Italy was the first place where the first
newspaper saw the light of the day in Europe. During the reign of Elizabeth it
was published in England. The “Indian Gazette” published in 1774 was the first
newspaper in the sub-continent. “The Samachar Darpan” brought out by the
Missionaries of Sree Rampur was the first Bengali newspaper.
Its kinds: There are various
kinds of newspapers in the world. They are dailies, weeklies, monthlies,
fortnightlies, and so on. The daily newspaper carries the various kinds of news
and views of the daily affairs of the respective country along with the whole
world. So the daily newspaper is popular with all sections of people. Other
kinds of newspapers are known as periodicals and magazines. The contain
articles, stories, literatures, poems and some other items.
Newspapers in
Bangaldesh:
In Bangladesh the Nayadiganta, the Ittefaq, the Amardesh, the Inquilab etc are the
important Bengali dailies. The Bangladesh Time and the Bangladesh Observer are
prominent English dailies. The Robber, the Bitchitra, the Bartaman Dianka, the
Chaya Chhanda etc are the names of weekly magazines. The Chitta Bangla and the
Ananda Bichitra are fortnightly and monthly magazine respectively.
Usefulness: Newspaper is very
useful to all sections of people. It tells us what is happening at home and
abroad. It is said that, Newspapers is a store house of knowledge and
information. All sections of people such as Students, Lawyers, Politicians,
Traders, and Sportsman etc are always in need of newspapers. They find in the
newspaper some items of information that are very useful to them. It
familiarizes the students with the world outside. Merchants read the newspaper
to know the condition of the market, Lovers of sports go through them to get
the sports news, and Politicians come to know the political news of the world.
The employment seekers get useful information in it. It is for all these
reasons newspapers are a great concern to all. Newspaper is also the best
medium of advertisement. Business men bring their products and goods to the
notice of a wide circle of people through it. People also express their
opinions through newspapers. It is the means of communications between the
government and the people.
Draw backs: Newspapers have a
great responsibility. Their duty is to lead the people and nation in right way.
Hence they should furnish correct news and impartial views. But this is often
ignored. As the newspapers are owned by different political parties, they provide
news and express views in their own way. Really speaking, newspapers sometimes
suppress the truth and spread lies. Hence newspaper is not always an unmixed
blessing. Napoleon said, "Four hostile newspapers are more to be feared
than a thousand bayonets".
Conclusion: In spite of its
draw-backs newspaper is the most useful thing in modern life. We cannot think
of a day without it. To read newspaper is a good habit. The more we read
newspaper, the more we can acquire knowledge. If we do not read it, we shall be
like the frogs in a dark well. It is a looking glass of the modern world. So,
all of us should read it regularly.
Discipline
Introduction: Discipline is a
principle of obedience and the spirit of maintaining order. In other words, the
rules which regulate human activities and conduct are called discipline. It
makes a man obey the rules and mould his life according to the prevailing law
and order.
Value of Discipline: The value of
discipline is obvious is every walk of life. It regulates human conduct and
prevents him from doing whatever he likes. It strengthens law and order in
society. In order to keep peace and tranquility in the society discipline is
must. It is the basis of all other virtue. For want of discipline a home cannot
be a real home, a society cannot be a peaceful society, and a nation cannot be
a strong and progressive one.
Discipline in Nature: Nature shows the
shining example of the necessity of discipline. The sun, the moon, the stars,
and the planets of the universe follow discipline strictly. Any breach of
discipline here will bring about the total annihilation of the universe.
Necessity of
discipline in different fields of life: Discipline is very important in every
sphere of life. An army without discipline is a rabble. A society bereft of
discipline is likely to plunge into chaos and anarchy. If the players in the
playground do not obey the rules of the game and the order of the captain they
are sure to lose the game. By observing discipline strictly the players can
reach the higher of their glory. Discipline is absolutely necessary in strictly
the players can reach the height of their glory. Discipline is absolutely
necessary in schools, colleges, and other educational institutions. No
educational institutions can run and do well without discipline. Similarly, the
students cannot learn anything good if they do not obey the rules of their institutions.
Educational institutions are the best places to infuse the idea of discipline
into the minds of students. A family without discipline is sure to suffer chaos
and unhappiness. In different walks of our life we also find the necessity of
discipline. For example, when we go to a market or to shop to by things or to a
railway station to buy tickets, we often see large crowds. In such a situation,
if everyone tries to get his thing first, there will surely be chaos and no one
will get what he wants. If, on the other hand, they form a queue each of them
will get his things without trouble.
Conclusion: Discipline is the
root of all other virtues in our life. It is the secret of success. Life
without it is like a ship without a rudder. Without it our life will be at
hazards. Life which is not consistent with discipline is sure to ruin. So, all
of us should be the staunch performer of discipline from the very beginning of
life.

many diseases. So the necessity of taking exercise should not be ignored.
Physical exercise prolongs our life and strengthens our mind. If we want to

My Daily Life
Introduction: It is the duty of
every one to prepare a routine of work that will help him to do everything in
time. To make the proper use of our time it is absolutely necessary to have
daily routine. For a student, it is all the more necessary. I am a student. I
have a routine of my own. I strictly follow it.
My daily life in the
morning:
With the break of dawn my day begins. I do not forget to observe the proverb:
“Early to bed and early to rise,
Makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”.
So, it is my habit to
rise early in the morning. After rising from bed I usually brush my teeth, wash
my hands, face and feet and then say my morning prayer. After my prayer I go to
the open field to take physical exercise. After taking physical exercise, I get
back home. Then I take my breakfast which mother keeps ready for me. When my
breakfast is over, I go to my reading room to prepare my day’s lessons. I stay
there three hours at a stretch with complete devotion to studies.
At School hours: At 10:30 a.m. I get
myself ready to go to school. Usually I go to school at 11 a.m. I spend
valuable five hours over there daily. I take my seat in the front bench and
listen attentively to what my teachers say. Our school starts at 12:00 noon and
gets over at 4:30 p.m. During the school hours I remain very busy with my
studies.
Afternoon work: When the school is
over, I come back home direct. After changing my school dress, washing my hands
and face I take some light refreshment and merrily go to the field to play with
my friends.
At night: Coming back from
playground I take ablution and say evening prayer. After it I go to my reading
room and study with the deep attention to prepare my lessons for the next day.
At 9:30 p.m. I generally take my supper. After supper I say my Esha prayer.
Before retiring to bed I listen to the Television or Radio which provides me
with charming songs and music. I enjoy them until I feel drowsy. This is how I
spend my time every day.
Conclusion: A well regulated
daily life is a must for everybody to reach the goal of life. Without making
and maintaining a regulated daily life none can expect to succeed in life. So,
everybody should have a daily routine and follow it strictly.
A Journey by Boat
Introduction: A journey by boat is
very pleasant as well as interesting. At the same time it is something like a
thrilling adventure to man living in a city. Pent up in a noisy and crowded
city like Dhaka, I naturally jumped at the suggestion of some of my friends contemplation
for a journey by boat.
Time and preparation:
It
was the month of October, 2010. We made our journey from Dhaka Sadarghat to
Munshigonj. We were six in number. We hired a large boat and made all possible
preparation for this journey. The day was nice. The river was calm and quiet.
Description of the
journey: We started our journey at 12 noon. The boatman began to row the boat
and the boat was moving swiftly. Gentle breeze was blowing. The small waves
were beating against it. The ripples of the river made a sweet murmuring sound.
While passing through, we enjoyed the beautiful sights on both the sides of the
river. At about 3 p.m. our boat touches the ghat of a village market. We got
down from the boat and bought a large ‘Hilsha fish’. The boatman cooked it and
we had a nice meal. After resting for a while we started our journey again.
Then the evening came with all its beauties and glories. The last rays of the
setting sun reflected on the calm water that enhanced the beauty or the river
more affluently. We got on the roof of the boat and enjoyed the grand sight of
the nature. The crimson rays of the setting sun added to the beauty of the
green fields charmed us. After seven hours journey we reached Munshigonj ghat
at about 6 p.m. Some of our friends were waiting for us at the ghat. They
accorded us a hearty reception.
The return journey: We spent a happy
time with them. After a lapse of about two hours we again got into the boat and
started our journey. Our return journey was equally pleasant. The boat was
passing very gently. It was a moon-lit night. All my friends came out of the
boat and sat on the roof. The moon’s beam flooded the whole river and filled it
with uncommon beauty. Out of joy one of my friends began singing a sweet song.
I thought I was in a dream land where only joy and beauty reign. The boatman
also began to sing:-
“Row, row, row, the boat, gently down
the stream,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, Life is but
a dream”.
When the night
advanced, we entered into the cabin and lie down and fell asleep. The next
morning when we woke up it was just daylight. Our boat reached the Sadarghat.
We got down from the boat. Thus, our journey by boat to a happy end.
Conclusion: The journey by boat
is really a pleasant one. It provides us a lot thrill and pleasure that cannot
be described but to be felt only. Such a pleasure of a journey which we
undertook will never efface from memory. Really this journey by boat will
supply us serene delight for all time to come.
A journey by Train
Introduction: In modern days man
remains preoccupied with his daily activities and worldly affairs. He has no
time to enjoy the beauty of nature and refresh himself. But the journey by
train may serve him well if he wants to escape the monotonous urban life and
pass the time in the midst of natural beauty.
Time and occasion: My annual
examination got over. I had recess for some days. During this time of the year
the weather is good enough to make a journey. Incidentally I, with some of my
friends took a sudden decision to go my sister’s house in Chittagong by train.
Accordingly, on the appointed day we reached Kamalapur railway station by taxi
before sunrise. We bought our tickets and got into the train. The guard blew
the whistle, waved his green flag and the train began to move.
Description of the
journey: The
train began running at a full speed. I am fond of scenic beauty from the very
beginning of my life. I, keeping myself aloof, sat beside a window and looked
outside through it. The sun was rising with all its splendid beauty. Dew drops
on the soft grass of meadows were glittering like pearls. I enjoyed these
scenes and sights with a joyful mind. By this time the train was moving through
rural areas. I gazed and gazed at the house, trees, meadows with golden crops
and other panoramic view with a cheerful mind. Things came to my vision and
disappeared in the twinkle of an eye.
My mind was full of joy. I looked and looked through the window. Everything seemed running swiftly to opposite direction. The train ran at full speed. Now and then it crossed a bridge over a river with a chattering noise. As it was an express train, it touched only at a few big stations. At about noon when the train entered the Chittagong district I felt great joy seeing the hills on either side of the line as I had not seen a hill before. After eight hours journey at last our train reached Chittagong railway station at about 1 p.m. We got down from the train and went to my sister’s house by taxi. Our return journey was equally pleasant one.

Conclusion: The pleasant and
enjoyable journey lasted for a few hours. Despite that the journey left a
permanent impression in my mind. I never forget the sweet memory of this
journey. The scene of the memorable journey peeps into my mind in the moment of
solitude when I become tired of the mechanical urban life.
My aim in life
Introduction: The target of a ship
is to reach the port, the aim of a book is to join the river and the goal of a
river is to meet the sea. Similarly, every man should have a definite aim that
determines his future career and helps him reaching the goal of life. It is the
driving force in a man akin to aim in life. It is a great virtue and everybody
should have it. If a man does not have any definite aim he cannot succeed in
life.
Differences of taste
and ambition: Different
persons have different aims in life. Somebody craves for honour, and high
dignity in the society, somebody desires the power and somebody wants wealth.
Again, somebody wants to be a doctor and so on. This choice of profession
depends on one’s taste, aptitude and intensity of desire.
Choice of my profession: From my
childhood I had a great regard for teaching profession. As such I
had always cherished an intense desire in my mind for becoming a teacher.
My father who is a school teacher has inspired me to take this teaching
profession. He has often said that a teacher can give real service to his
country through teaching. I have also got inspiration from my school teachers.
Their inspirations have left an effect on me and I have come to believe that
nothing can be nobler than to build up the character of the future generation.
Another reason behind my choice is that profession of a teacher is noble and
his life is a dedicated one. Moreover, 60% of our people have no light of
education. And as such, they are suffering for ignorance. So, I want to give
them the light of education and make them good citizens of the country. For all
these reasons, I have decided to be a teacher. It reminds me of a Chinese
proverb:
“If you plan for a year, sow a seed,
If you plan for a decade, plant a
plant,
If you plan for a century, teach the
people”.
How to fulfill my
aim:
A) Preparation: To be a good teacher
I wish to prepare myself first. I am now an S.S.C Examinee of Ram Kanai high
academy. After passing the secondary school certificate (S.S.C) and H.S.C
Examinations with credit I shall get myself admitted into a renowned University
for Honours and Masters Degree. After having done Masters I shall finish
the B.Ed and M.Ed. course to qualify myself as a good teacher.I shall also
complete some training courses on teaching profession.
B) How I will serve
the Country: When
I have finished my course of studies, I like to join the High School located in
my own village, where, I will render my best services to the society and the
nation at large in teaching I shall vest my all out efforts to enkindle the
light of learning in the minds of people. From my childhood I saw most of our
villagers are not educated and they face various problems. I like to remove
their present condition. I must help them teaching their children.
Conclusion: A man's real success
in life greatly depends on his proper choice of career. My long cherished aim
in life is to bring a desirable change in human behavior through education. I
shall be happy and consider my work amply rewarded, if I can give them proper
education and knowledge and make them good citizens of the country.
A Village Fair
Introduction: A village fair is a
large gathering of men, women and children on a particular occasion. It is a
hilarious annual meeting place of the village people. It is like a mirror that
reflects the emblem of rural life. It brings a chance in the monotonous life of
the villagers. People of all ages specially the children eagerly wait for this
happy occasion.
Place and Occasion: A village fair is
usually held once or twice a year either on the first or the last day of
Bengali year. It is also held on the occasion of some religious or national
festival. It is generally held in the central part of the village or on the
bank of a river or in front of a Temple or a Dargah or under the spreading big
banyan tree.
Things are bought and
sold:
A village fair is an exhibition of the village products. The people of
different professions in the village such as a patterns, carpenters,
blacksmiths, weavers etc. bring their own hand made articles for sell and
display. There is a great assemblage of fancy goods such as toys, whistles,
combs, hair pins, cheap ornaments, cosmetics, looking glasses, earthen wares,
balloons etc. in the fair. Different kinds of household goods and decorated and
painted articles of bamboo, wood and cane are also brought for sale. Various
kinds of sweet meats and seasonal fruits are also available here. Everybody
buys things after his own choice.
Attractions: A village fair is a
place of joy and pleasure for the villagers. As such some special and
attractive arrangements are made in the fair to attract and amuse the visitors.
Circus, Magic show, Jatra and Jarigan are the chief attractions of them in the
fair. Merry-go-rounds, puppet shows, mock fights, the lotteries etc. are some
other special attractions of the fair.
Demerits: The village fair has
some drawbacks too. As it lacks in arrangements for proper sanitation, it
sometimes leads to the outbreak of epidemics. The gambling parties in the
village fair tell upon the morality of the village people, besides subjecting
them to economic loss. Moreover, undesirable people and criminals visit the
fair and commit various kinds of mischief.
Conclusion: Rural people are
deprived of different kinds of amenities of life enjoyed by the urban people.
So, a village fair appears before the villagers with all opportunities for joys
and pleasures. It gives them much relief to their toilsome life. On the whole
the village fair has not outlived their utility even now. It is a part or our
cultural life.
The wonders and blessings or
modern science
Introduction: The age we live in is
an age of science indeed. Wherever we look-land, water and air we can see the
gifts or blessings of science. Science has made our life easy and comfortable.
Everywhere we can see the glorification of science.
Wonders of science: Science, in its
rapid progress, goes on creating wonder after wonder. In fact, the wonders of
modern science are too many to describe here.
Electricity is the
first wonder of modern science. It is a great source of power and energy. It
has brought about a great change in man’s life. Modern civilization is
unconcealed without electricity. Mobile or Telephone is another wonder of
modern science. It helps a man to talk with any one sitting in any corner of
the wonder. Wireless or radio is another great wonder of modern science. It has
made us possible to hear the human voice from any part of the world. Another
one of the greatest wonder of the modern science is Television. It enables us
to see and enjoy events, scenes, plays or any other thing sitting in our
drawing room thousands of miles away.
Again, the invention
of radar is another wonder of modern science. It helps us to detect the
advancement of ships, planes and the likes. Recently the invention of Rocket is
also a wonder of science. It has made space travel easy. With its helps today
man can fly anywhere even to a moon. Nuclear energy is, perhaps, the most
wonderful of all the achievements of modern science. It has made possible in
making atom bomb, hydrogen bomb and the missiles.
Besides these,
Computer, internet, X-ray’s, ECG, Radio Therapy etc are the wonders of modern
science too.
Its uses: The uses of modern
science can be seen and felt in everyday life and everywhere in the world. In
mills and factories, industries, agricultural, medical, transport communication
everywhere we can see the uses of modern science. Modern civilization would
come to a standstill it there was no electricity. Life would face its extreme
crises if the modern amenities of life are neglected. Agricultural and
industrial development has been possible because of modern science. In fact we
cannot live or do without science.
Abuses: Nothing is of unmixed
blessing. By the invention of Atom bomb, hydrogen bomb, missiles, explosives
men may efface the human race and its beautiful creation in the world. Atom
bomb used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II has buried the 2 populous
and prosperous cities of Japan in no time. The use of Hydrogen bomb may bring
the total destruction of a country and a nation in t he twinkle of an eye.
Conclusion: In fact, we hardly
know much we owe to science in the daily affairs of our life. Life without
modern science cannot be conceived today. Modern science is like Aladdin’s
lamp. It does not what was supposed to be impossible yesterday. Where it will
end nobody can say, but this much can be impossible yesterday. Where it will
end nobody can say, but this much can be said that it will go on working and
creating much more wonders in the days to come.
The Rainy Season of
Bangladesh
Introduction: Bangladesh is a land
of verities of seasons. The rainy season is one of them. It comprises the
Bengali months of Ashar and Sravan. After a long spell of hot weather the rainy
season comes with her showers to cool the earth. This season is of paramount
importance in an agricultural country like Bangladesh. It influences on our
life and culture to a great extent.
Causes: The rainy season is
caused by monsoon. The south west monsoon that blows in over Bangladesh from
the Bay of Bengal brings much vapor with it. As a result, she receives a heavy
rainfall during the monsoon.

season the sky often remains cloudy with patches of black clouds that hover
across the sky close to the earth surface. Violent blasts of wind blow.
Lighting flashes and thunder roars. The sun remains hidden behind the clouds
and it rains in torrents. Sometimes there is continuous downpour for days
together. Then water overflows the banks of the rivers. The fields go under
water and looks like a vast sheets of water.
Advantages: The rainy season
undoubtedly does us immense good. The nature assumes a new appearance at the
advent of rainy season. Trees and plants come into foliage. The landscape
appears green. The rain water washes away the filth and purifies the surface of
the earth. It lessens the intense heat of summer and simulates the growing of
vegetation and crops. It makes our land alluvial, fertile and suitable for
growing better crops. Hilsha and other fishes are available in this season. The
rainy season facilitates the navigation system in the country and thereby
fosters our trade and commerce. It also makes everything lively and the
atmosphere becomes clean and free of dust.
Disadvantages: The rainy season no
doubt does us much good. But it does not an unmixed blessing all the times. It
has disadvantages too. During this season the roads at the country side become
muddy and slippery and as such we cannot go from one place to another on foot
easily. Sometimes heavy rainfall overflows the banks on the rivers and causes
floods. Floods damage our crops; wash away the heads of our cattle, houses and
properties. It also hampers our normal life.
Conclusion: The rainy season is
the most important and useful of all the seasons in our country. This season is
closely related to the economy of the country and prosperity of our people. Our
agriculture mainly depends on it. It helps the natural to gain a new life. So
whatever may be the disadvantages of the rainy season, this season is hailed by
the people of Bangladesh. We always welcome this season and enjoy its beauty.

is an unhealthy place. It is dusty in the dry season and muddy in the rainy
season. There is no proper system for disposing the garbage and other filths.
It lacks in proper sanitation too.
Conclusion: Though the village
market is a noisy, dusty and unhealthy place, yet it is an integral part of
village life. It is a place of gathering of a vast number of people providing
opportunities for views and news let alone buying and selling daily
necessaries. Proper care and arrangements should be made for the improvement of
the unsatisfactory condition of the village market.
The Post Man
Introduction: The post man is a
very familiar figure in our society. He is a very humble and dutiful government
servant. He brings us news from our near and dear ones living at distant
places. He is known to all sections of people for his services. Even children
can instantly know him when he knocks at the door.
His dress: A post man is known
to us all for his traditional uniform and dress. He generally wears a khaki
uniform supplied by the postal department. He always carried a bag on his
shoulder containing letters, money orders, parcels and other postal articles
for delivery. He is seen to carry an umbrella over his head during rains and
the summer.
His duties: The post man
performs a lot of duties. His daily work begins in the post offices with the
sorting of letters, parcels, money orders etc. After collecting letters,
parcels, money order etc. from the post office he goes out on his beat. The
post man in a town goes house to house to deliver them. He generally drops the
letter in the private letter boxes. Where there is no letter box he drops the
letters through some opening of the doors.
A village post man
goes on his beat twice or thrice a week. Sometimes he is seen to use a bicycle.
He comes to the market place on hat day and delivers letters, parcels, money
orders etc., to their addresses. He delivers everything to the addresses with
great care.

postman:
A postman should have some good qualities. He must be punctual, dutiful,
sincere, honest and hard-working. He is a good man and good friend to us
indeed. He never neglects his duties though he is ill-paid, ill-clad. In all
weather, whether good or inclement he performs his duties sincerely.
Importance or why
people like him: The
post man is a great friend of the people. He does a very important job. He
brings news from our friends and relations. We always hope that he will bring
some good news, and we eagerly wait for him. Sometimes he brings bad news and
makes us unhappy and sad. But when he brings good news our heart fills with
pleasure and joy. This is why the post man is always welcomed by all. It
reminds us the rhyme:-
"Post man, post man, don’t be late
Pass the letter over the gate."
Conclusion: A post man is a very
useful person to us. We cannot thing a civilized society without his services.
He performs the most responsible job in the society. But it is a matter of
great regret that he gets a very poor salary for which he always remains in
wants. We hope our government would like immediate step to improve his lot.
